- Attain a basic knowledge of the principles of plant growth and development.
 - Attain an understanding of environmental planning and landscape management processes involving plants and people in natural settings.
 - Attain a basic understanding of the interrelationships among the various components of the managed landscape ecosystem, including plants, people, animals, soil, water, air, and microorganisms.
 - Aarticulate the fundamental principles of ecological restoration, the different stages of the restoration process, and their related practices.
